Creativity -Feelings, it’s all about the feelings
Feelings…feelings.
This work is important and for reasons beyond fun, playful and greater purposes than to generate new ideas. The truth of this work is also about the release of wounds, healing, and getting into the heart. Above it all, communicating through feelings and emotion really brings meaning to our creative endeavors.
Our culture at times condemn those labeled sensitive. I see it with little ones, who shed tears at the simplest exchange. The adults or guardians are often removed through a lifetime of numbing - they are outside their hearts, they do what they can to teach the young how to “not be so sensitive”, to “not cry” as a survival skill. Honestly our culture struggles to “be with” those who are sensitive. It may be that the evolved person is one who has an emotional lexicon to be aware of their emotions and also has mastery of them. This doesn’t mean they have mastered the ability to swallow up their emotions or to never let them see you cry, no. Rather, the one who may be evolved is one who is very open hearted and allows these emotions to flow through them and emotional mastery actually means, they are okay with letting these emotions come through.
Through Yoga Teacher training and my own study of vulnerability I’ve learned that many of us heal the wounds of the planet through the processing of feelings and emotions. We all carry wounds and the scars of heartache, betrayal and other ways we feel the pains of our youth as we learn to navigate and survive. We truly could become apathetic and give up on connection and being with our feelings. Or we can choose to lean in and get in touch with our creative sides.
One way to stay young at heart is by being playful and to find this sensitivity and to bring this into our creative expression. The blocks that we emotionally carry are breakthroughs waiting to happen. As we practice creativity, invariably what is holding us back will begin to come into focus and we will need to practice discernment and awareness so that we may invite these blocks to be removed and this may require an emotional release.
I often feel that just when I am feeling a powerful shift and really good work; this is about the time I subconsciously put on the brakes. I am pretty sure I am not alone when I say that often I need to get out of my own way. It may just be as simple as naming it - or maybe just becoming aware. We shall see….
